Flash flood erodes bridge neck, pickup truck falls off, injures 1 person

Heavy rain in Umphang District, Tak Province, flash floods eroded the bridge neck on the Mae Sot-Umphang road. A pickup truck drove past and was unable to stop in time, causing the entire vehicle to fall off. The driver was injured.

Heavy rains hit the hillside area on the border of Umphang District, Tak Province in the early morning, especially in Ban Tapepu, Tambon Mokro. A large amount of flash floods flowed into a stream in the village. The sound of water mixed with the sound of rain was loud. The flash flood also eroded the bridge neck at kilometer 146 on the Mae Sot-Umphang Road, causing the bridge neck to break more than 4 meters wide and 5 meters deep. At that moment, a pickup truck happened to drive past. The driver could not stop in time and the entire car fell into the stream and was damaged. The driver was injured. Rescue workers sent him to the hospital. The latest update is that he is safe.

The Mae Sot-Umphang road is the main road connecting Umphang, Phop Phra and Mae Sot districts. When it
was cut off, it caused a long traffic jam on the mountain. Officials from all sectors mobilized their forces and heavy machinery to rush to repair the bridge neck. It is expected to be completed this afternoon if there is no more heavy rain.
