Hanoi Plans to Extend Bicycle Pilot Service Through 2025

Hanoi: The Hanoi People’s Committee has decided to extend the pilot period for its urban bicycle service until the end of 2025. The service, launched in August 2023, currently operates with 1,000 bicycles distributed across 79 stations in the city. The bike stations are strategically located near bus stops, parks, and tourist destinations to ensure convenience for residents. Public bicycles are expected to become a popular mode of transport in Vietnam in the near future. However, after nearly a year of operation, the service has not yet achieved its expected uptake.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the decision to extend the pilot service is aimed at increasing the adoption of public bicycles as a viable mode of transportation. The committee is focusing on enhancing the accessibility and visibility of the bike stations to encourage more residents and tourists to use the service. The extension is also aligned with Hanoi’s broader goals of promoting sustainable urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion i
n the city.

The committee is considering additional measures to boost the program’s success, including promotional campaigns and partnerships with local businesses. By extending the pilot period, Hanoi aims to gather more data on user preferences and improve the service based on feedback. The initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to integrate transportation options and provide environmentally friendly alternatives.
