HCM City Plans Development of Can Gio as National Ecological Tourism Hub

Ho Chi Minh City: Ho Chi Minh City authorities have announced plans to develop the coastal region of Can Gio and the areas adjacent to the Saigon River into key tourist destinations, as part of the efforts to boost its tourism sector. The People’s Committee has already approved the Can Gio coastal urban development project covering 2,870 hectares situated close to the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve. Can Gio, characterised by its 13-km coastline and extensive mangrove forests, is poised for significant growth in the eco-tourism and resort sectors.

According to Vietnam News Agency, this strategic initiative by Ho Chi Minh City aims to leverage Can Gio’s natural landscapes and biodiversity to attract more visitors and enhance the city’s overall tourism appeal. The development project aligns with the city’s broader vision for sustainable tourism growth, ensuring that the ecological integrity of the region is maintained while promoting economic opportunities. The plans include infrastructure development that supports both tourism and conservation efforts, making Can Gio a model for ecological tourism in the region.
