Ho Chi Minh City Unveils Free Bus Travel on 134 Routes

Ho chi minh city: Ho Chi Minh City's centre for public transport management has announced an initiative to offer 100% bus fare support for residents from July 1 through December 31. Under this scheme, residents will be able to enjoy free travel across 134 bus routes in the city. This initiative is set to benefit a significant number of commuters, providing them with cost-free access to public transportation. According to Vietnam News Agency, the city will cover the full ticket cost for passengers on 134 operating bus routes. This includes 109 routes subsidised by the municipal budget and 25 routes that are currently non-subsidised. Presently, Ho Chi Minh City operates a fleet of 2,432 buses, of which 1,649 are electric and green-energy buses, making up 67.8% of the total fleet. Looking ahead, the city has ambitious plans to further enhance its eco-friendly transportation options. By the end of 2026, Ho Chi Minh City aims to convert 624 additional buses to electric operation. This move is expected to increas e the share of electric and green-energy vehicles on intra-city routes to 100% by early 2027, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban transportation.
