I was stunned when I saw this: Elephant Head Stone, a new check-in point in Trang Province.

A very strange stone in the shape of an elephant’s head was excavated at Wat That Suk Samran in Trang Province 7 years ago, but had to overcome many obstacles. A temple boy dreamed that it was a Bodhisattva who was reborn as an elephant king named Phraya Chattan, who was as big as an elephant’s head.

At Wat That Suk Samran, Ban Na Mai Pai, Village No. 2, Tambon Ba Wee, Amphoe Hat Samran, Trang Province, villagers came to pay homage to the elephant-head stone, which is perfect and looks like a real elephant’s head. Two eyes have been added to make them clearer, to open the eyes and repair the tusks that were partially damaged by a backhoe.

Phra Chatrawut Piyathammo, a junior monk and the head monk, said that the rock was excavated on June 11, 2017, from a coincidence when he wanted to excavate a road around the temple. However, the backhoe excavated a large rock and encountered many obstacles, such as the bucket teeth and the centipede feet coming off. It had to be repaired for several days. When the repair
s were complete, the car would not start. The driver invited him because he wondered what was wrong with the rock and why it could not be dug out. The backhoe excavated several times, but encountered obstacles every time. The driver then told him to go and look, and changed the excavation method to dig the soil next to it so that the rock would pop up, and found a rock shaped like an elephant’s head.

When I returned to my hut, as soon as I fell asleep, I dreamt of this stone telling me that I was Phraya Chattan. So I went to look for information and found that it could be two things: it was an elephant from the Phraya Chattan family, and it was the Buddha who was once Phraya Chattan, a Bodhisattva. The Buddha was once an elephant king and has become a new check-in point in Trang Province that is sacred. Locals like to come to worship and ask for good fortune.
