At 01.00 last night, Ban Du Police Station, together with Chiang Rai Provincial Defense and members of the Territorial Defense Volunteers, led forces to search a karaoke shop in Village 10, Ban Du Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District after undercover agents who had entered the shop several times sent signals informing them that the shop had committed all the elements of the complaints from the International Organization for the Prevention of Human Trafficking, that the shop had secretly brought children under the age of 18 to serve customers, where customers could hug, kiss, and fondle them, which is considered a human trafficking offense. In addition, the shop also sold and used drugs in the shop, and was open until the morning.
The search of the shop revealed that the building was a single story, divided into 8 VIP karaok
e rooms, a central hall, and more than 10 tables. Inside the shop, there were 8 customers and women serving customers, one of whom was only 16 years old.
In addition, a search of the man sitting at the same table as the shopkeeper also found ecstasy and ketamine. In the VIP karaoke room, in addition to finding a large amount of ecstasy, ketamine, and drug paraphernalia, women who were providing services to customers were also found using drugs with customers. When the service staff were given urine tests, 3 of them came back positive. They wanted to see what the ecstasy that the officers seized looked like. All of it was produced in the La Boo Boo pattern, leading to the assumption that the dealers were producing it in order to target the teenage market.
As for the person claiming to be the shop manager, when the officers called to check the license, they only found a liquor license. Initially, they were charged with setting up a place of service without permission, hiring a child under 18 without informing
the labor inspector, encouraging a child to misbehave, selling liquor beyond the specified time, and detaining the offender for prosecution. As for the person under 18, the multidisciplinary team is in the process of determining whether they are victims of human trafficking or not.
