“Lam Takhong Dam” water shortage, only 22% remaining

Many areas are experiencing flooding problems, but Lam Takhong Dam in Korat is a cause for concern. The water volume is at the “critical low” level, with only 22% remaining. There is concern that there will be no water for tap water production. Waiting for rain to help replenish the water.

The Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Command Center, by the Nakhon Ratchasima Irrigation Project, reported the water storage situation in Nakhon Ratchasima Province that the amount of water stored in 4 large reservoirs has an average of 353.35 million cubic meters or 39.91% remaining, and only 315.91 million cubic meters or 37.25% is usable water. Lam Takong Reservoir, which supplies water to 5 districts of Nakhon Ratchasima, currently has only 88.92 million cubic meters or 28.28% remaining water, and only 66.20 million cubic meters or 22.69% is usable water.

The water volume is considered to be at the ‘critical low water level’ while the Lam Phra Phloeng Reservoir has 60.11 million cubic meters of water remaining or 38.79%,
of which 59.39 million cubic meters or 38.50% is usable water. The Mun Bon Reservoir has 71.39 million cubic meters of water remaining or 50.64%, of which 64.39 million cubic meters or 48.06% is usable water. The Lam Chae Reservoir has 132.92 million cubic meters of water remaining or 48.33%, of which 125.92 million cubic meters or 46.99% is usable water. The remaining water storage of the other 23 medium-sized reservoirs is currently at 137.99 million cubic meters or 30.73%, of which 20.82 million cubic meters or 23.47% is usable water.

Summary of 4 large reservoirs and 23 medium-sized reservoirs, totaling 27 in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, currently have an average total storage capacity of 491.35 million cubic meters or 40.25%. Therefore, water management must be done carefully, with distribution to the public for consumption first. As for the agricultural sector during this planting season, rainwater should be used first. However, if there is no rain or the rain is delayed for a long time, water must be d
istributed to the agricultural areas in the irrigation zones, which cover more than 150,000 rai, causing the volume to decrease rapidly. Therefore, all 27 reservoirs in Nakhon Ratchasima Province can still accommodate a large amount of water.

The Meteorological Center for the Lower Northeast has issued the latest announcement, Issue 4 (43/2567), this morning at 06.00 a.m. regarding heavy to very heavy rain in the lower northeastern region, affecting from 15-17 September 2024.
