Hanoi: Within the framework of the 15th National Assembly (NA)’s ongoing 9th session, lawmakers on May 17 listened to a proposal and a verification report on the draft Law on amendments and supplements to certain articles of the Law on Vietnamese Nationality. The aim is to facilitate the process for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese to acquire or regain Vietnamese nationality.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the draft law consists of three articles focusing on two major policies. These include the relaxation of conditions related to acquiring Vietnamese nationality for individuals whose biological father, mother, paternal grandparents, or maternal grandparents are Vietnamese citizens. Additionally, the law aims to ease conditions for foreign investors, scientists, and experts to obtain Vietnamese nationality.
The draft law also addresses the relaxation of conditions for those who have lost their Vietnamese nationality to regain it. This move is expected to simplify the legal processes and encourage more
individuals to reconnect with their Vietnamese roots or invest in the country.
