Hanoi: Vietnam is always an active, trusted partner, and supporter of UNESCO, making substantive contributions as a member of key executive agencies, including the World Heritage Centre, said Party General Secretary To Lam at a reception for Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the World Heritage Centre under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Hanoi on May 20.
According to Vietnam News Agency, during the meeting, Party General Secretary To Lam highlighted Vietnam’s commitment to preserving and promoting its cultural and natural heritage. He emphasized the importance of UNESCO’s role in recognizing and protecting heritage sites worldwide and called for stronger support from UNESCO in this regard.
The reception underscored Vietnam’s proactive engagement with UNESCO. General Secretary To Lam reiterated the country’s dedication to contributing to the global heritage community and enhancing cooperation with UNESCO to safeguard cultural and natural sites. Vietnam, as a member of the World Heritage Centre, seeks to leverage its position to advocate for heritage recognition and protection.
The meeting also served as a platform to discuss future collaborations between Vietnam and UNESCO. Both parties expressed their mutual interest in strengthening ties and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in heritage conservation efforts.
