PM Chairs 32nd Meeting of National Steering Committee for Anti-IUU Fishing

Hanoi: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 32nd meeting of the national steering committee for combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The meeting took place on March 3 at the Government headquarters in Hanoi and was connected online with 22 coastal provinces and cities.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the meeting aimed to review the progress and effectiveness of measures implemented to combat IUU fishing. The committee discussed strategies to enhance coordination among relevant agencies and strengthen law enforcement to address challenges in managing and controlling fishing activities. The focus was on ensuring compliance with international regulations to protect marine resources and support sustainable fishing practices.

The committee also evaluated the outcomes of previous initiatives and considered new proposals to enhance monitoring systems and cooperation with international partners. Participants emphasized the importance of raising awareness among local fishing communities about the implications of IUU fishing and the benefits of sustainable practices.
