PM Chairs Meeting to Push End to IUU Fishing

Hanoi: Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the 15th meeting of the National Steering Committee on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, connected online with 21 coastal cities and provinces on September 30. The event, convened just a week after the 14th meeting, underscored the Government’s determination to eliminate IUU practices and secure the removal of the European Commission (EC)’s ‘yellow card’ warning against Vietnam’s seafood exports this year.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the meeting was a critical step in the country’s ongoing efforts to address the EC’s concerns and improve the sustainability of its fishing industry. The Government is working to implement stricter monitoring and regulation of fishing activities to ensure compliance with international standards. The ‘yellow card’ warning has posed significant challenges for Vietnam’s seafood export sector, and the Government is committed to taking decisive actions to meet EC requirements and support the sector’s growth.
