Hanoi: Thai Nguyen Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 8 visited the northern province of Thai Nguyen to inspect flood-hit areas, encourage local residents, and direct efforts to overcome the consequences of severe flooding triggered by typhoon Matmo. Heavy rains from the circulation of typhoon Matmo between October 6 and 7 caused record flooding in Thai Nguyen, with rainfall reaching 250-400mm, and in some places exceeding 500mm. At 5:00 on October 8, the Cau River’s water level at Gia Bay station rose to 29.9m, 2.9m above warning level 3 and surpassing the historic 2024 flood peak by 1.09m.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for prompt and effective relief measures to assist the affected residents and mitigate further damage. He urged local authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens and coordinate closely with national agencies to deliver essential supplies and services. The government is mobilizing resources and personnel to bolster the relief efforts, ensuring that immediate needs are met and infrastructure is swiftly restored.

As part of his visit, Prime Minister Chinh engaged with the community, offering words of support and reassurance. He also assessed the damage to infrastructure and agriculture, which are critical to the local economy. The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to providing long-term support for reconstruction and rehabilitation, aiming to build more resilient communities capable of withstanding future natural disasters.
