Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Sees Unprecedented Visitor Numbers During National Day Holiday

Quang tri: The national relic site of Quang Tri Ancient Citadel in the central province of Quang Tri experienced a record influx of visitors during the National Day holiday on September 2. Thousands traveled daily from various parts of the country to honor fallen soldiers.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the Management Board of the Memorial Site for late Party General Secretary Le Duan and Quang Tri Ancient Citadel reported that from August 30 to September 2, the site received nearly 10,000 visitors. On September 2, over 3,800 individuals visited to offer incense, setting a new record for daily attendance.

During the summer of 1972, Quang Tri town faced 81 days and nights of intense bombardment. Western media at the time likened the destruction to the impact of seven atomic bombs, similar to those the US dropped on Hiroshima in 1945. Despite being reduced to rubble, the Ancient Citadel remains a symbol of revolutionary heroism and the Vietnamese people’s resolve for national independence and reunification.
