Raid on ‘Bitcoin Mine’ in Ratchaburi City

Police raid ‘Bitcoin mine’, find illegal use of electricity, resulting in insufficient electricity in the community, and seized more than 900 Bitcoin mining devices as evidence.

Officers from Ratchaburi City Police Station and the Chief District Officer for Security, the District Officer of Ratchaburi City, along with officers from the Provincial Electricity Authority, brought a search warrant from the Ratchaburi Provincial Court to search a house in Don Tako Subdistrict after receiving a report from local residents that the electricity was often dropping and sometimes going out, causing damage to electrical appliances in the house.

When checking with the electricity authority, it was found that someone was illegally downloading electricity, causing insufficient electricity. The electricity authority officers went to inspect and found a house that was being used as a factory. They questioned the people inside the house, but they did not receive cooperation. In addition, a good citizen gave information that
the house was likely being used as a Bitcoin mining operation, so they requested a search warrant to investigate.

Initially, it was found that the gate was locked tightly. The officers therefore broke the door open and entered, with the owner of the land renting it out as a witness to the inspection. When they entered, they did not find anyone working inside the house, but they found a lot of equipment, including more than 900 bitcoin miners, but some of them had been removed earlier. This corresponds with information from locals that at 3:00 a.m., a group of men and several cars came in to remove some things from the house. Therefore, it is assumed that the owner of the bitcoin mine had already moved some of the things out of the house.

Mr. Jamnong Chanwong, Chief District Officer for Security, revealed that initially, he will have the Electricity Authority officials inspect the electricity usage to see if there are any irregularities before sending the case and evidence to the police to proceed with legal
action.
