Retail Giants in Vietnam Prepare for Lunar New Year with Increased Stockpiles

HO CHI MINH CITY: Vietnam’s major retailers are gearing up for the upcoming Lunar New Year, known as Tet, by significantly increasing their stockpiles of essential goods. Saigon Co.op, one of the country’s leading retail chains, has amassed over 12,000 tonnes of goods, marking a 30-50% increase compared to typical inventory levels. This move aims to ensure steady supply and stable prices during the festive season.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the majority of these goods are part of the market stabilization program and include staples such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, pork, poultry meat, and eggs. The stockpile also comprises processed foods, vegetables, fruits, and seafood, which are in high demand during Tet. In addition to these essentials, Saigon Co.op has included other foods and specialty items traditionally consumed during the holiday.

Other major retail chains, including Go!, BigC, Tops Market, Aeon, Satra, and WinMart, are also preparing for the anticipated surge in consumer demand as the year-
end approaches. These supermarkets have secured adequate supplies to meet the needs of shoppers looking to celebrate Tet with traditional foods and goods.

The strategic stockpiling by these retailers aims to prevent shortages and price hikes, ensuring that consumers have access to necessary goods at reasonable prices during the Tet holiday. This proactive approach is part of a broader effort to maintain market stability and cater to the cultural and festive needs of the Vietnamese population.
