Hanoi:A sea turtle has made its sixth return this year to Hon Cau Island in the central province of Lam Dong to lay eggs. On October 8, 82 eggs were discovered at Mui Tau beach, as reported by the Hon Cau Marine Protected Area Management Board.
According to Vietnam News Agency, these eggs have been identified as belonging to the green turtle species, Chelonia mydas, and have been transferred to a secure incubation site. With favorable weather conditions, the eggs are anticipated to hatch in 45 to 60 days.
Since the start of 2026, Hon Cau Island has seen sea turtle nesting activity six times across three beaches: Nhat, Mui Tau, and Ba Hon. Of these nests, three were left in undisturbed safe locations, while the remaining three were relocated to the incubation area for added protection. In total, these activities have involved 246 eggs.
