Search for parts of small plane crash accelerates, experts reveal there are no black boxes

A small plane crashed in Khao Din Subdistrict, Bang Pakong District, Chachoengsao Province yesterday (22 August). Officials are still searching for parts. Experts on the ground revealed that this model of plane does not have a black box.

Last night, rescue workers tried to use a long-arm backhoe to dig into the accident site with great difficulty because they were afraid that the backhoe would slide and fall. It took more than 11 hours until they temporarily stopped at 2:00 AM before returning to the area again at around 8:00 AM. After that, forensic officers arrived at the scene and worked together with the rescue team to plan the search for the remains from last night. Since the search began until now, 23 body parts have been found. They are currently being kept for identification. Initially, drones will fly to take pictures from a high angle and use thermal imaging cameras to identify possible parts of the plane. From discussions with the head of the search operation for the deceased, it is estimated tha
t the point where the most parts were found should be about 10 meters deep.

For today’s plan, rescue workers will work with forensic officers to use a backhoe to dig up the area. Rescue workers and forensic officers will use their hands to search and separate human remains and parts of the plane. It is expected that the human remains are scattered in the radius around the incident, but the exact distance cannot be determined and it overlaps with the area of ??the villagers. Therefore, cooperation from the villagers must be sought in the search.

The villagers who witnessed the incident said that at first they thought the plane was flying low and would raise its nose, but it landed in the forest. So they rode their motorcycles out of their houses to check it out and found that someone had already parked there to watch. So they pushed through the thorns to get to the crash site and found the pieces of the plane that were submerged in the muddy water. They tried to get in, but there was smoke and the smell of o
il. They had to slowly poke their legs and try to use their hands to search because they thought that if they found the person, they could help him out before the rescuers arrived. But they only found clothes and a hat, so they decided to go back up and wait for the officers to come and help.

While Captain Pongthep Sirisawat, a special expert from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee (AAIC) who came down to inspect the wreckage of the plane, said that in terms of finding the cause of this accident, the plane did not have a black box because it was a small plane weighing no more than 5,700 kg. Therefore, it was necessary to inspect the parts of the plane. At present, 30% of the parts have been found. They have requested information from the company that owns the plane, which is maintenance information from the past 1-2 months. Therefore, they cannot give an answer until the inspection is complete.

The latest at approximately 11.15 am, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Minister of Interior, went to the area t
o observe the work of the officers and to encourage the relatives of the deceased who were waiting to hear the news. After this, the officers will continue the search, racing against time because in the evening the water will rise again, which will make the work even more difficult. –
