Still unable to help 3 workers trapped in collapsed tunnel – but they have vital signs

The search team discussed adjusting the action plan to speed up the rescue of 3 workers trapped in the collapsed train tunnel. The latest update is that they are still showing signs of life.

More than 80 hours have passed, or the fourth day, after a landslide buried three workers in a high-speed railway tunnel in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Officials have not been able to help the victims as expected.

Mr. Kritsak San Wasasiri, Director of Special Operations Division, Search and Rescue, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation or USAR Thailand, revealed the latest progress before joining the meeting that until now, it is still not possible to specify the exact time to rescue the first victim. The first person, a Myanmar national driving a truck, is about 1.6 meters away from the steel tunnel defense line, and the officers must continuously build a defense line for safety, causing the rescue to be delayed. However, there is still hope for survival because vital signs of all three
people are still detected. The officers will meet to find a way to help.

At the mouth of the tunnel at Khlong Khanan Chit Railway Station, this morning, the machinery team that dug the soil to reduce the weight of the pressure to the bottom of the tunnel exit was able to dig through the side of the mountain, which is expected to be at the point where the injured vehicle is, but they have to dig down about 5 meters to be at the same level. Therefore, the officials chose to open the side to reduce the risk of another collapse.
