Thai Engineer Foundation joins forces with EGAT volunteers to restore flooded areas

The Thai Engineer Foundation, Volunteer Hearts, together with the EGAT volunteer team, went to restore the electrical system in flood-stricken areas of Nan Province to be able to use it safely. They are preparing to expand the results to Chiang Rai Province next week. Yesterday (27 September 2024), Mr. Thewa Panyaboon, Deputy Governor of Nan Province, along with Mr. Surapol Thiansut, Mayor of Nan Municipality, Dr. Kamol Tarkabut, Chairman of the Thai Engineers Volunteer Foundation, Mr. Chaiyos Tangworakulchai, Assistant Governor for Sustainability Management, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), together with the volunteer team of EGAT, Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO Group), and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) under the project to repair the electrical system to restore flood victims, piloted the project to restore the electrical system in flood-affected areas of Nan Province. Mr. Chaiyos Tangworakulchai, Assistant Governor for Sustainability Management, EGAT, sa id about the progress of the flood relief efforts that currently, the EGAT volunteer team from the Northern Operations Division, the Mae Moh Power Plant Maintenance Division, the Bhumibol Dam, the Sirikit Dam, the EGCO Group, and PEA under the name of the Thai Engineers Volunteer Foundation, totaling more than 70 people, divided into 19 teams, have gone to restore the electrical system for flood victims in 3 districts of Nan Province: Mueang Nan District, Tha Wang Pha District, and Wiang Sa District. It was found that electrical equipment such as plugs and switches were at risk of electrical hazards due to being submerged in water for a long time, mud clogging them, causing electrical leakage, and some of the equipment was damaged. Therefore, they are replacing the equipment, such as breakers, switches, plugs, and light bulbs, to improve the electrical system so that it can be used safely again. 'EGAT would like to convey its concern to the people affected by the floods to check the electrical system before use. If there is a problem or if you find a problem with the plug, you can notify the municipality or the village headman, which PEA and EGAT have already coordinated with the network,' said Mr. Chaiyos. Dr. Kamol Tarkabut, President of the Thai Engineers Volunteer Foundation, said that in addition to restoring the electrical system with the EGAT technician team, the visit to Nan Province also included a team from the Building Inspectors Association and the Thai Structural Association to assess the damage to the door and window structures in order to request assistance from the government according to the criteria for using government reserve funds to help disaster victims in an emergency case, B.E. 2563. For today (September 28, 2024), EGAT has returned the area on Thesaban Road 21, Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, from Tham Pha Chom Temple to Sai Lom Joy Market, a distance of 650 meters, to Wiang Pang Kham Subdistrict Municipality and Mae Sai Municipality after EGAT and its network partners have cle aned up mud and debris from the floods, so that the local government can proceed with the restoration of other areas. In addition, next week, EGAT will meet with the Thai Engineers Volunteer Foundation and PEA to send a team of volunteer technicians to restore the electrical system in Mueang and Mae Sai Districts, Chiang Rai Province, with a target of 1,000 locations so that people can return to their normal lives, including distributing 500 relief bags and 6,000 bottles of EGAT's Kindness Drinking Water to people in Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province.
