Hanoi: The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on September 4 designating 2027-2036 as the 'International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development'. This initiative, proposed and promoted by Vietnam along with a core group of countries including Cyprus, Italy, Laos, Qatar, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, was co-sponsored by 103 countries. The resolution aims to provide a long-term framework to integrate culture into development policies globally.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the resolution appoints the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as the focal point for implementing the Decade. UNESCO will coordinate with member states to develop specific activities, programmes, and action plans to drive this cultural integration into sustainable development efforts. This initiative marks a significant step in acknowledging the role of culture as a vital component of global development strategies.
