Hanoi: Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hai Luu, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, has called for stronger international cooperation to address food insecurity caused by conflicts. Luu made a speech at a high-level open debate of the UN Security Council (UNSC) themed "Food Under Fire: The Security Council's Role in Mitigating Global and Local Food Crises" in New York on August 25-26.

According to Vietnam News Agency, during the debate, Luu emphasized the urgency of the issue, highlighting that conflicts around the globe continue to exacerbate food insecurity, affecting millions of people. He urged member states of the UNSC to enhance collaboration and implement effective strategies to mitigate the consequences of these conflicts on food systems.

Luu pointed out that while global food production has seen significant advancements, the distribution and access to food remain major challenges, particularly in regions afflicted by conflict. He called for a multi-faceted approach to tackle the root causes of food insecurity, including promoting peace and stability, strengthening humanitarian assistance, and investing in sustainable agricultural practices.

The UNSC debate provided a platform for member states and international organizations to discuss the intersection of conflict and food insecurity and explore potential solutions. The involvement of Vietnam in these discussions underscores the country's commitment to global peace and security and its proactive role in international forums addressing critical issues.
