Can Tho: Vietnam’s tourism sector is in full swing as travel agencies gear up for the bustling 2025 Lunar New Year season, unveiling tours and preparing to cater to a surge of international and domestic visitors. Online travel platform Agoda reported a 139% surge in international tourists’ searches for Tet accommodation compared to the same period in 2024, with Chinese visitors leading the growth, nearly tripling their number. This trend supports Vietnam’s ambitious target of welcoming 22 million foreign arrivals this year. The Lunar New Year festival, locally called Tet, is the country’s largest traditional celebration. This year’s break for the event will last from January 25 (the 26th day of the last month of the Year of the Dragon) to February 2 (the fifth day of the Year of the Snake).
According to Vietnam News Agency, the increase in interest among international tourists is a promising sign for the tourism industry, which has been recovering from the global disruptions experienced in previous years. Travel agencies are working diligently to offer a variety of experiences that highlight Vietnam’s cultural and natural attractions. The preparations are aimed at ensuring that both international and domestic tourists have a memorable experience during the Tet holiday.
The significant rise in interest from Chinese tourists is particularly notable, as this group appears to be driving much of the international attention. The efforts to accommodate this influx include enhancing capacity in popular tourist destinations and improving services to meet the high expectations of visitors. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to position Vietnam as a top destination for travelers worldwide during the festive season.
