Vietnamese Coffee Husk Exported to RoK

Hanoi: The September 2nd Import-Export Company Limited (Simexco Daklak) on February 24 exported a batch of Cascara specialty coffee husk to the Republic of Korea (RoK). The shipment consisted of 500 kg of coffee husk, valued at nearly 1 million VND (40 USD) per kg. This event marked an important milestone in Simexco Daklak’s strategy to develop specialty coffee products, opening up new opportunities for the Vietnamese coffee industry to expand globally.

According to Vietnam News Agency, this export marks a significant step in the diversification of Vietnam’s coffee exports, traditionally dominated by raw coffee beans. By capitalizing on the growing global trend of specialty coffee products, Simexco Daklak aims to create a niche market for Vietnamese coffee husks, which are used to produce Cascara tea, a beverage gaining popularity worldwide. This move could potentially lead to increased revenue for Vietnamese coffee producers and contribute to the sustainability of the coffee industry by utilizing coffee by-products.

The Vietnamese coffee industry has long been a significant contributor to the country’s economy, primarily through the export of Robusta coffee beans. However, the introduction of specialty coffee products like Cascara to new markets such as the RoK could enhance Vietnam’s reputation as a versatile coffee producer. This development aligns with global consumer trends towards unique and sustainable coffee experiences, positioning Vietnam to capture a share of this emerging market.

Simexco Daklak’s successful shipment to the RoK may encourage other Vietnamese companies to explore the potential of specialty coffee products. As global demand for diverse coffee experiences continues to grow, Vietnam’s coffee industry may witness further innovation and expansion in its product offerings, ensuring its competitiveness on the international stage.
