Da nang: Vietnam and Laos are seeking to strengthen coordination between central agencies and border provinces to improve the handling of requests for mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. The issue was at the centre of a meeting held in Da Nang on September 17-18, bringing together around 50 representatives from central agencies and procuracies in provinces and cities along the shared border between the two countries. The meeting was jointly organised by the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam, the Supreme People's Procuracy of Laos, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the collaboration aims to enhance the effectiveness of legal proceedings and ensure that justice is served in cross-border criminal cases. The participants discussed strategies to streamline processes and improve communication channels between the legal entities of both nations. By focusing on these aspects, the two countries aspire to bolster their legal frameworks and better tackle criminal activities that affect the border regions.

The meeting underscored the importance of international cooperation in legal matters, especially in regions where borders are shared. Both nations acknowledged the challenges posed by transnational crime and emphasized the need for concerted efforts to address these issues. The involvement of the UNODC highlights the global significance of such collaborations and the role of international organizations in facilitating dialogue and cooperation.
