Vietnam’s Aquatic Output Reaches 5.5 Million Tonnes Amid Push for Sustainability

Hanoi: Vietnam’s fisheries sector has seen a 3.1% year-on-year increase in total output, reaching an estimated 5.5 million tonnes from the beginning of 2025 to date, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. This included 3.93 million tonnes of fish, up 2.8%, and 793,400 tonnes of shrimp, marking a 5.6% rise. Following a strong rebound in the first half, the industry is striving to meet its full-year export target of 10.5 billion USD, a 4.3% increase from 2024. Having already earned 5.16 billion USD, it faces the critical task of generating over 5.4 billion USD in the second half.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam’s push for sustainability in its fisheries sector is a significant factor contributing to the growth in output. The government’s initiatives aim to enhance sustainable practices, ensuring long-term viability and competitiveness in the global market. The increase in production is attributed to improved aquaculture techniques and better management practices among local fisheries.

The sector’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to boost economic growth while addressing environmental concerns. By focusing on sustainable development, Vietnam aims to maintain its position as a leading exporter of aquatic products. As the industry continues to expand, it remains focused on achieving its export targets and contributing to the country’s economic progress.
