Villagers are suffering greatly as the bridge neck is broken and they cannot travel.

The situation of the Kok River this morning has begun to recede as there has been no more rain. However, the areas of concern are the red areas such as Ban Mae Khao Tom and Ban Pa Yang Luang. Villagers are severely affected and unable to travel after the current swept away the bridge neck.

This point is where the bridge necks are broken on both sides, causing the travel of the villagers of Pa Yang Luang to be cut off, causing inconvenience for many days. The villagers had to help each other build a bamboo bridge so that they could walk back and forth between each other.

Rong Dueai Kai Bridge is very important to the villagers because it is the connection point between Ban Pa Yang Luang and Ban San Pa Sak to the border of Ban Mae Khao Tom and government offices in Rim Kok Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District, as well as being the route into the city. The villagers said that since the incident, no agency has come to repair it, so they would like to ask for help from the authorities because the villagers o
f Pa Yang Luang are suffering greatly. They also said that this year’s flooding is the worst in 30 years, after the flood in 1994 when the city’s water retention wall broke.

While some farmers said that in addition to their houses being damaged, it was not as bad as the damage to their rice fields because they borrowed money to invest in the hope of harvesting crops, but then they were flooded like this. Therefore, they would like to ask the government to help support seeds because now they are completely broke. They do not know where they will get the money to pay off their debts after the water recedes, or where they will find capital to continue investing in rice farming because they have no other occupation besides being a rice farmer.

For the current situation of the Kok River, the trend is still good. The water is not overflowing the banks. The water level has started to decrease to about 6 meters below the bank level. Previously, the water overflowed the banks to the highest level of 8.9 meters. Beca
use there was no rain this morning, traffic in the city can travel normally on all routes. Only the red and orange areas, which are the low-lying downstream areas, are still waiting for the water to recede. The total damaged areas in Mueang Chiang Rai District that were affected by the flood are 52 communities. Currently, there are more than 8,739 households or 28,017 people affected. Initially, there were no fatalities.

The district chief warned the public who have started to gradually enter their homes to be careful of objects or constructions that could collapse and cause injury.

For today in the city area, the district and volunteer agencies will use water trucks to carry out a big cleaning operation to go to houses so that the villagers can return to their normal lives as soon as possible.
