Villagers post on social media, asking for help

The flood situation in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province is still concerning. In many areas affected by the disaster, assistance has not yet arrived. Villagers have had to find ways to survive by asking for help via social media.

The Mae Sai Community Facebook page, which has over 170,000 members, has become another important channel that people in Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province, who are suffering from severe flooding, have used to ask for help since last night until today.

For example, this Facebook user posted a request for help for an old man in the Muang Daeng Tai Soi 1 area, Mae Sai Subdistrict, which is another area with a large number of people trapped in their homes. He stated that the water level is currently high and the old man has to float on the water in front of his single-story home, with nothing to hold onto.

This is an urgent post asking for help because there are 2 sick people who just underwent surgery and are stuck on the roof of a pickup truck. What you can see in the pictu
re is the roof of a carport, where the water is almost covering the roof and the water level is still rising. The poster is also stuck in his residence. The area is near the back gate of the Mai Lung Khan School. There are more than 20 people stuck nearby.

As for this old lady, she has been stuck in her house in the Muang Daeng area, Soi 1/1, Pha Kwai, all by herself since last night. The high and fast-flowing floodwaters have made it impossible for her to get out. The poster has asked for urgent help from relevant parties.

Since yesterday until today, social media users have been asking for help from relevant agencies throughout the day because the water level in Mae Sai District is flowing so fast that villagers cannot help themselves. In many cases, they have received help amidst the suspense.

In the case of the 86-year-old grandfather who has been stuck on the roof of a pork butcher’s tent in the area of ??Lung Khann Market since yesterday afternoon (September 10) until this morning, for more than 20 h
ours, they were unable to help the grandfather because the water current was very strong. There were updates on the situation throughout the night. Until around 10:45 a.m., the page Kan Jom Phalang did a live broadcast while the world jet ski champion braved the strong current to get the grandfather out amidst the excitement of all parties.

It’s not just people who need urgent help, there are also many pets that are suffering from this disaster, such as the pig ‘Bamroe’ who the ‘Dog and Cat Lovers – Chiang Rai’ page posted asking for help, ‘Anyone, please send me a car to transport the pig. Bamroe is a pig that was redeemed. The owner took good care of it and made it higher. But today, the water is overflowing very quickly. Right now, Bamroe is very scared. Please help.’

Until recently, this evening, the page posted an update that ‘Bamroe’ had been rescued and was considered to have survived the flood for the 4th time. They also thanked those who helped and thanked everyone for their encouragement and comme
nts supporting Bamroe.

As for the dogs whose owners were able to evacuate from the floods, they were unable to take their pets with them until officials had to go in to help. They found that the five dogs were hungry because they were stuck in a house that was flooded in the Piyaporn Village area, Mae Sai District. Most recently, all five dogs and their owners were rescued and taken to a house far from the floods.

Throughout the day, many agencies, both government and private, such as the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, went to the area to help those affected by the disaster who were trapped in Mae Sai District, especially those who were trapped in their houses where the current was still flowing strongly. They had to tie themselves with ropes for safety before they could be rescued.

General Songwit Noonpakdee, the Supreme Commander, along with General Thirayuth Jinhiran, the Commander of the Army Development Command, went to the area to help people in Piyaporn Village, Soi 3-5, Mae Sai District, totaling more tha
n 800 people who were trapped in their homes, to get out of the area after the floods severely damaged their homes. They distributed boxed meals and drinking water, and used patrol cars and flat-bottomed boats to help move the elderly, children, and valuables to a safe area because the water level was continuously rising.
