13th Ocean Dialogue Explores New Frontiers of High, Deep Seas.

HANOI: The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), in collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Institute in Vietnam, hosted the 13th Ocean Dialogue under the theme ‘Exploring New Frontiers of the High and Deep Seas” on November 14. Addressing the hybrid event, DAV Vice President Dr. Nguyen Hung Son reiterated the negotiation process leading to the adoption of an agreement under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). This agreement focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ).

According to Vietnam News Agency, the dialogue emphasized the importance of this agreement in ensuring the sustainable management of marine resources. The event gathered experts and stakeholders from various sectors to discuss strategies for implementing the agreement effectively and to explore potential challenges in managing these vast oceanic regions. The discussions also highlighted the significance of international cooperati
on in safeguarding marine biodiversity, with particular attention to areas that lie beyond the control of any single nation.
