VinFast announces opening of pre-orders for electric vehicles in Vietnam, US

Automaker VinFast on January 4 announced it will receive pre-orders for its electric SUV models VF e35 and VF e36 in Vietnam and the US during the VinFast Global EV Day within the framework of the technology exhibition CES 2022 in Las Vegas, the US.

Accordingly, pre-orders for the vehicles will open at 5pm on January 5 (Las Vegas time), or 8am of January 6 (Hanoi time). Special offers from VinFirst programme will be given to those who book the two models within the first three months.

In Vietnam, customers who will have to pay 15 million VND (659 USD) in advance for VF e35 and 20 million VND for VF e36 will receive gift vouchers worth 150 million VND and 250 million VND, respectively. Meanwhile, customers in the US who pay 200 USD in advance will get an e-voucher worth 3,000 USD for VF e35 and 5,000 USD for VF e36. In both markets, the pre-orders are refundable.

During the event, VinFast will introduce blockchain application in the process of ordering ownership verification as well as future promotion for customers, becoming a pioneering automaker in the field.

Prices of VF e35 and VF e36 for Vietnamese and US markets will be announced at the same time, while their prices in Europe and Canada will be revealed later.

VF e35 and VF e36 are two electric SUV models in the eespective segments D and E, which debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2021.

These two electric vehicles integrate Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, featuring lane assist, collision warning, driver monitoring, fully automated parking, summon vehicle, and more.

They are also equipped with Smart Infotainment, including in-car control features with voice assistant, virtual assistant, and e-commerce services.

VinFast Global EV Day will take place at 4pm on January 5 (Las Vegas time), or 7am on January 6 (Hanoi time).

15th National Assembly’s first extraordinary session opens

The 15th National Assembly’s first extraordinary session opened in Hanoi on January 4 and was connected via videoconference to 62 delegations of NA deputies in centrally-run provinces and cities, excluding the capital city’s delegation who attended the sitting in-person.

Before the opening ceremony, which was live televised, leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front and NA deputies paid floral tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum.

In the preparatory meeting, lawmakers discussed and approved the session’s agenda after hearing a report on collecting feedback on the session’s scheduled agenda by NA Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office Bui Van Cuong.

After NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue delivered his opening speech, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung is to present a proposal and Chairman of the NA Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh will present a verification report on the draft Resolution on fiscal and monetary policies in support of the socio-economic recovery and development programme.

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The will present a proposal and Chairman of the NA Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh will present another report examining the draft investment policy on a project to build the eastern section of the North-South expressway in the 2021-2025 period.

Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long will deliver a proposal and Chairman of the NA Economic Committee Vu Hong Thanh will present a examination report on on the draft Law on amendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Public Investment, the Law on Public-Private Partnership, the Investment Law, the Bidding Law, the Electricity Law, the Enterprise Law, the Law on Special Consumption Tax and the Law on Enforcement of Civil Judgments.

Chairman of the NA Finance – Budget Committee Nguyen Phu Cuong will present a report examining the draft Resolution on piloting several special policies and mechanisms for the development of Can Tho city after Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung presents a proposal.

In the afternoon, the legislators will discuss in groups the draft Resolution on fiscal and monetary policies in support of the socio-economic recovery and development programme.

Enterprises optimistic about production and business in 2022

As many as 45.4 percent of businesses in a recent survey conducted by the General Statistics Office (GSO) forecast that their production will increase in the first quarter of 2022 as compared to the fourth quarter of 2021.

Meanwhile, 37.2 percent of the surveyed enterprises expected stability in their production and 17.4 percent of them predicted a reduction.

Up to 41.4 percent and 41.8 percent of the respondents expected an increase and stability in their orders in the first quarter of 2022, respectively, compared to the fourth quarter of 2021. Just 16.8 percent of the surveyed businesses forecast a drop in their orders.

New export orders of 37.2 percent of the surveyed firms were predicted to rise in the first quarter of this year from the last three months of 2021. The new export orders were predicted to drop in 16.7 percent of the enterprises and remain stable in 46.1 percent of them.

Foreign-invested firms were the most optimistic about production and business with 83.1 percent expecting better performance or stability in the first quarter of 2022. The rates among State and non-State enterprises were 82 percent and 81.2 percent, respectively.

HCM City’s schools welcome back over 680,000 students

More than 680,000 students in Ho Chi Minh City came back to school on January 4 after almost seven months of studying online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They are students of the 7th, 8th, 10th and 11th grades. Previously, nearly 160,000 9th and 12th graders in the southern largest hub returned to school on December 13, 2021.

Each school has devised online and in-person classes in accordance with their conditions.

In Thanh An island commune of HCM City’s Can Gio district, all students of grades 1 to 12 are allowed to go back to school.

Other educational facilities, such as foreign language, informatics and life skills centres, will be allowed to resume in-person classes if their COVID-19 prevention and control plans have been approved by district-level authorities.

Teachers and students are required to receive at least one jab of COVID-19 vaccine for more than 14 days or have made full recovery from the disease.

Hanoi welcomes 143 Japanese visitors on New Year holiday

Hanoi has welcomed the first international flight from Tokyo, Japan, with 143 passengers on board of 2022, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

The department reported that the capital city served about 60,000 tourists, mainly domestic visitors, in the three-day New Year holiday from January 1-3, down 49 percent year-on-year.

Due to the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, relics sites in Hanoi have not yet re-opened. However, museums and parks have welcomed back visitors.

Tourist attractions that draw a large number of visitors during the holiday included the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in the Dong Mo tourism area in Son Tay town, the Ba Vi National Park and the Tan Da tourism site in Ba Vi district, and the Thien Duong Bao Son Park in Hoai Duc district.

In recent times, travel firms in Hanoi have actively developed new products and tour programmes suitable for the new normal, with typical tours such as a tour cycling Co Loa Citadel, a tour to Dong Mo – Ba Vi – Duong Lam ancient village by bicycle, a tour to French style architectures, standup paddle boarding (SUP) on the Hong (Red) River and camping service on the outskirts of the capital city.
