Leaders pay tribute to late President on National Reunification Day occasion

A delegation of the Party, State, National Assembly (NA), Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) leaders paid tribute to late President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and offered incense at the Martyrs’ Monument in Hanoi on April 27 on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30).

The delegation included State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong, and President of the VFF Central Committee Do Van Chien.

They showed their profound gratitude for the late President who devoted his whole life to the nation and led the Party and the people to glorious victories. On the same day, delegations of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Public Security, the Party Committee, People’s Council and People’s Committee of Hanoi also paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh and heroic martyrs.

47 years ago, April 30 went down to the nation’s history as a brilliant milestone. The 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, especially the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, liberated the South and reunified the nation./.

– Arrivals entering Vietnam via all border gates will no longer have to fill and submit health declaration forms from April 27, the Ministry of Health announced.

-The National Power Development Plan for the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision towards 2045 (PDP VIII) has taken into account the replacement of coal-fired power projects and those that are still pending, heard a meeting of the State Appraisal Council.

Speaking at the meeting, held in Hanoi on April 26 under the chair of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said the plan also targets a balance in electricity generation between regions and encourages the development of other fuels like hydrogen and ammonia. Central anti-corruption committee discusses settlement of corruption cases

The Standing Board of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption held a meeting in Hanoi on April 27 to discuss cases that it has followed and define tasks for the time to come.

Participants agreed that the prevention of corruption and negative phenomena have seen good progress in many areas.

So far, eight inspection teams have been set up to receive reports, detect and settle corruption cases, and evaluate assets at some Party committees and organisations as well as competent agencies.

Since the beginning of this year, investigations have been conducted into 1,264 cases involving 2,038 suspects, while 737 corruption cases with 1,567 defendants have been brought to the court.

Of the total, the committee has directed the settlement of four new cases involving 23 defendants.

Investigations into many extremely serious cases are underway, including those at the Military Medical University and the Vietnam Coast Guard High Command, the bribery case at the Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the securities market manipulation case at FLC Group, and the property fraud case at Tan Hoang Minh Group.

Eight officials managed by the Party Central Committee, including one deputy minister, one former deputy minister, one former chairman of provincial People’s Committee, and five generals of the armed forces have been prosecuted.

The Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission has proposed disciplinary measures against 14 senior officials.

Since the beginning of the year, assets worth over 2.05 trillion VND (89.25 million USD) have been seized and frozen, while nearly 4 trillion VND has been recovered.

In 2022, the steering committee aims to complete investigations into 19 cases, while prosecuting 21 more, holding first-instance trials for 24 cases and appeal trials for six cases, and concluding the verification and settlement of 39 others. In the second quarter, first-instance trials will be held for two major cases.

At the same time, a number of cases will be added to a list to be supervised and directed by the committee, including the bribery case at the Consular Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the securities market manipulation case at FLC Group; the property fraud at Tan Hoang Minh Group; violations related to real estate at land lot at No. 33 Nguyen Du street and No. 34-36-42 Chu Manh Trinh street in Ho Chi Minh City; and a gambling case in An Giang province.

Concluding the meeting, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, head of the committee, said that anti-corruption activities have focused on combating not only corruption but also negative phenomena, including the degradation of morality, political ideology and lifestyle.

He clarified that a lot of theoretical and practical experience has been gained, including using Party inspections as the first step in the settlement of corruption cases.

Along with success in revoking assets, the work has helped reinforce people’s trust in the Party, State and the political system, he said.

The Party chief underlined the need to continue to pay great attention to Party building and the development of a pure and strong political system as well as anti-corruption. He also reminded agencies involved to work more closely for better efficiency./

Vietnamese, Chinese border localities look to strengthen cooperation

A meeting between secretaries of the Party Committees of the Vietnamese northern border provinces of Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Ha Giang and Lai Chau, and China’s Yunnan province took place virtually on April 27.

The event was also connected to the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, the Vietnamese Embassy in Beijing, the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi.

This was the second meeting of its kind, aiming to jointly evaluate the results of cooperation between the localities of the two countries since the first meeting in 2021.

Secretaries of the provincial Party Committees of the two sides agreed that in the past year, the Vietnamese and Chinese border localities have seriously implemented the common perceptions reached at the first meeting, and actively exchanged experience on Party building and poverty reduction.

They also effectively cooperated in disease prevention and control, and established exchange and cooperation mechanisms on agriculture.

The two sides agreed that under the direction of the Vietnam-China Land Border Joint Committee, the Vietnamese localities and Yunnan should actively implement development cooperation activities in border areas of the two countries in accordance with the three legal documents on the Vietnam-China land border and related agreements; and jointly build a border line of peace, stability and friendship, contributing to the stable, healthy and sustainable development of the Vietnam – China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Addressing the event, deputy head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee Guo Yezhou and deputy head of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Ngo Le Van highly valued the cooperation results between Vietnam’s localities and Yunnan province in 2021, expressing their hope that the two sides will continue to further strengthen cooperation in various fields, thus contributing to the socio-economic development of the provinces, and the stability, development and prosperity of the two countries.

The parties proposed their third meeting be held in the first half of 2023./.

Party information-education commission leader busy in Laos

Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and head of its Commission for Information and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia on April 27 visited Paxason newspaper, the Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane and Vietnamese community in Laos as part of his ongoing visit to the neighbouring country.

The same day, Nghia also met with leaders and staff of Unitel Company, a joint venture of Viettel and Lao Asia Telecom.

At his working session with Pasaxon newspaper, the official news agency of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the State of Laos, Nghia expressed his belief that the newspaper will successfully complete its task of popularising the policies, viewpoints and orientations given by the Lao Party and State. He said he hopes the newspaper will continue to renovate itself and strengthen the application of high technologies to become a multimedia agency.

Visiting Unitel company, Nghia congratulated the firm on its achievements after 10 years of investment in Laos. He advised Viettel in general and Unitel in particular to improve the quality of their services to clinch their position and trademark in Laos.

Meeting officials at the Vietnamese Embassy and representatives from the Vietnamese community in the country, Nghia showed a hope that they will continue to help foster connections between the two nations, while promoting the patriotism tradition, solidarity and mutual support and heading to the homeland.

During his Lao trip, Nghia also visited officials and soldiers of Army Corp 11 under the Ministry of National Defence who are assisting Laos in operating the new National Assembly building, a gift from the Party, State and people of Vietnam to Laos. He also worked with leaders of Luang Prabang province and the Vietnamese Consul General and Vietnamese community there./.

Prime Minister pays working visit to Soc Trang

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 27 led a working delegation of the Government to make a field trip to the Tran De seaport planning area in Tran De district and Long Phu 1 thermal power project during his working visit to the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang.

According to Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW of the Politburo dated April 2, 2022 on orientations to promote socio-economic development and ensure security and defence in the Mekong Delta to 2030, with a vision towards 2045, the Tran De port will be developed into a gateway seaport of the region.

Reporting on the project to the PM, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The and Secretary of the Soc Trang provincial Party Committee Lam Van Man said that Tran De is an estuary of the Hau River to the sea.

As planned, the Tran De port will be capable of receiving general and container ships of between 50,000 and 160,000 DWT.

The port is expected to cover an area of 550ha, including a 16km-long sea-crossing wharf, a 4,000-ha logistics and port service area, industrial parks with a total areas of 4,000 ha.

The Tran De seaport will be connected directly with the existing Nam Song Hau National Highway, and Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang Expressway and Dai Ngai Bridge via National Highway 60 in the future. It will help promote the advantage of waterways in the Mekong Delta through the system of rivers and seaports in the region.

The same day, PM Chinh and the delegation visited Long Phu 1 thermal power project in Long Phu district whose construction began in September 2015 but has not yet completed as scheduled.

After inspecting the construction site, the PM suggested investors and the provincial authorities continue to study and have solutions to remove difficulties in implementing the project./.

Hanoi, Phnom Penh agree new bilateral cooperation orientations

Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung and Cambodia’s Phnom Penh governor Khuong Sreng promised to jointly seek new orientations to promote practical ooperation between the two cities in various fields during talks on April 27 in Phnom Penh.

The two officials agreed to further enhance cooperation in investment and tourism between enterprises in the two cities.

The Hanoi side pledged to enroll more Cambodian students to its universities; boost information sharing and experience in urban management and people-to-people exchanges; and enhance education and popularisation activities to raise awareness of younger generations of the fine traditional relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

For his part, Sreng highlighted the significance of the Hanoi delegation’s visit as it takes place when the two nations are celebrating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties (June 24, 1967-2022), affirming that it is a testament to the good traditional relationship between the two Parties, governments and peoples, especially the long-standing cooperation between Phnom Penh and Hanoi.

He stressed that the Cambodian people never forget the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers’ help to bring his country out of the Pol Pot genocidal regime.

He briefed on the socio-economic reforms of Phnom Penh in recent years, saying that the city needs assistance in tourism and transport development.

While congratulating Cambodia for its great achievements in maintaining political stability, security, socio-economic development and constantly improving its international position, Dung highly valued Cambodia’s measures to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and its high COVID-19 vaccination coverage, as well as its positive achievements after fully reopening the economy.

Regarding efforts to recover post-pandemic, the Hanoi official said Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular have been implementing solutions to remove the difficulties facing businesses, improve the business and investment environment, and attract foreign and domestic resources.

The Hanoi authority has also focused on allocating a budget to invest in key projects in areas that can help ensure the sustainable development of the capital, he noted.

Hanoi aims to become green, civilized, modern and competitive city in the region and the world, and maintain its “City for Peace” title, Dung added.

Earlier the same day, Dung paid courtesy visits to President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, CPP Honorary President and Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Heng Samrin, and CPP Vice President and President of the Senate of Cambodia Samdech Say Chhum./.
