Vietnam welcomes 1.87 million foreign visitors in nine months

Vietnam welcomed about 1.87 million international arrivals in the first nine months of this year, 16.4 times higher than the same period last year but much lower than that in the same time in 2019 before COVID-19 broke out, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

 

In September alone, the country saw nearly 432,000 foreign visitors, down 11.2% over the previous month.

 

Total revenue from accommodation and catering services reached 430.9 trillion VND in nine months, a 54.7% rise year on year, while earnings from travelling services reached about 18.2 trillion VND, 3.9 times higher than the figure recorded in the same period last year, and equivalent to only 55.9% of that in the same period of 2019. The tourism sector has actively strengthened tourism promotion activities to attract more foreign visitors.

 

Recently, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) has coordinated with the social media network TikTok and the Vietnam Tourism Association to introduce launch “Ngan nga Vietnam,” which calls on users to discover the beauty of traditional music, celebrate culture and share national pride, thereby contributing to promoting Vietnam tourism.

 

A Mekong Tourism Forum 2022 will be held from November 9-14 in central Quang Nam province, focusing on the reconstruction of tourism for faster recovery, giving a chance for travel firms to connect and introduce the culture, people and tourism of Vietnam to countries in the greater Mekong sub-region./.

Taste of Italy Week opens in HCM City

The MM Mega Market Vietnam Company, in collaboration with some trade promotion organisations and the Italian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, opened the Taste of Italy week in the southern metropolis.

 

The event is also the start for a series of activities on promotions and tasting Italian cuisine in 12 MM centres across the country Until the end of October 12, consumers have chances to enjoy Italy’s typical food and beverages, and buy its products at attractive prices.

 

Italian Consul General Enrico Padula said that Vietnam is one of 10 emerging markets in the Italian Government’s priority to develop trade and investment relations. Currently, Vietnam is Italy’s largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

 

In the first eight months of 2022, two-way trade between Vietnam and Italy reached 4.25 billion USD, up 13.9% year-on-year. And there are nearly 6,000 Italian businesses investing in Vietnam./.

Parliament leader meets voters in Hai Phong city

National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and other NA deputies of northern Hai Phong city met with voters in Thuy Nguyen district on September 29, ahead of the 15th parliament’s fourth session.

 

Local voters said that despite impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the complex global situation, thanks to proper policies, Vietnam has succeeded in curbing the pandemic and facilitated socio-economic recovery and development.

 

They highly valued the NA’s reform of working methodology to solve socio-economic issues and tackle policy and law obstacles as soon as possible, giving the Government a favourable legal corridor to better manage the macro-economy.

 

At the meeting, Chairman Hue pointed out adverse factors that can have negative impacts on Vietnam’s economy, stressing the importance of proactive response to any circumstances. He also fielded voters’ opinions about the shortage of medical supplies, the simplification of administrative procedures, salary for civil servants and public employees, labour mobility, the shortage of teachers, supervision over environmental pollution, along with some other issues.

 

Meetings between legislators and voters are regular activities before and after each session of the NA.

 

During the fourth session, slated for October 20 – November 18, the parliament is set to consider and vote on seven draft laws and three draft resolutions; give opinions on seven bills; and make decisions on socio-economic, budgetary and supervisory affairs, along with some other important issues./.

Close to 123,000 sea turtles released back to sea

The Con Dao National Park in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau released 122,867 baby turtles into the ocean between January and September.

 

According to statistics from the management board of the park, in the period, it saw 1,586 out of 2,510 sea turtle nests successfully hatched in its incubators. Meanwhile, tracking devices were attached on 402 mother turtles coming to lay eggs on Con Dao beaches.

 

The park has been working hard to conserve sea turtles (Chelonioidea) for years, becoming an ideal nesting destination for the rare species in Vietnam. Le Hong Son, head of the board’s conservation-international cooperation office, said more than 450 mother turtles lay eggs on 18 beaches in the park every year.

 

Son added that many conservation programme are being implemented at the park, including those on studying ecological characteristics of sea turtles, protecting their nesting habitats and nests; and building a hatchery, among others.

 

Meanwhile, on a monthly basis, the park receives some 700 tourists coming to watch turtles laying eggs./.

Vietnam, Nicaragua eye to boost friendship, partnership

 

A Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) delegation led by Tran Duc Thang, Deputy Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission, visited Nicaragua from September 25 – 28 at the invitation of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN).

 

The Vietnamese delegation paid a courtesy call to Nicaraguan National Assembly President and also had meetings with representatives from the country’s council of ministers and supreme electoral council as well as leaders of the capital city of Managua, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Youth Ministry, the Nicaragua-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Group and others.

 

They also visited a number of agricultural production and handicraft projects.

 

The Nicaraguan officials wished to learn from Vietnam’s experience in reforming and developing agriculture and to further step up the solidarity and bilateral cooperation between the two Parties, States and people.

 

Thang, for his part, congratulated the FSLN and Nicaraguan government’s success in sustaining security and economic growth in recent years and gave his host a brief overview of Vietnam’s current situation and the implementation of the 13rd National Party Congress’ resolution.

 

Vietnam stands ready to share experience with Nicaragua and boost an effective friendship and partnership between the two Communist Parties and nations in the coming time for the benefits of their people.

 

The two sides later exchanged views on Party-to-Party, State-to-State and people-to-people ties and regional and global issues of mutual interest while discussing specific ways to step up cooperation in agriculture, investment, personnel training and more./.

Festival to showcase traditional costumes of Vietnam’s ethnic minorities

A festival, slated for November 18-20, will spotlight traditional costumes of Vietnam’s ethnic minorities in the north at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Son Tay town on the outskirts of Hanoi.

 

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has freshly issued an organisation plan for the festival, the first of its kind, which aims to concretise policies of the Party and State on the conservation and promotion of ethnic minority cultures, and to honour such traditional cultural values.

 

The event will also offer an opportunity for ethnic artisans and artists to exchange experiences and learn from one another and for their communities to popularise their traditional culture to domestic and international visitors.

 

Themed ‘The colours of northern ethnic traditional costumes amid integration and development era’, it will gather representatives of 17 provinces and cities in the region, including Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Phuc Tho, Hoa Binh, Son La, Yen Bai, and Lao Cai.

 

It is expected to feature a meeting with artisans and people who have made significant contributions to the preservation of ethnic culture, a seminar, a fashion show, and a number of exhibitions, among other activities.

 

Vietnam is home to 54 ethnic groups, each of which has its own unique cultural identity./.

Tropical storm Noru triggers flooding in Laos

 

Typhoon Noru, which has weakened into a tropical low pressure, has caused flooding in the central and southern parts of Laos.

 

In the most affected provinces of Sekong, Salavan and Attapeu, many houses and a large area of farmland have been inundated. Landslides have blocked roads, causing some areas to be completely isolated while flooding has also destroyed power lines, roads and other infrastructure.

 

There are no full reports on the losses caused by the typhoon.

 

The Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines’ energy industry safety administration has requested for monitoring of the level of all dams and reservoirs and a close coordination among ministries and agencies to update about the weather conditions./.

First Evo200 e-scooters of VinFast delivered to customers

VinFast delivered the first batch of electric scooters of Evo200 model from its factory in northern Hai Phong city on September 29.

 

The e-vehicle maker said those of the latest model that can travel for the longest distance (205km) on a single charge and have the “best price” – 22 million VND (over 920 USD) for both Evo200 and Evo200 Lite versions.

 

While Evo200 can travel at a speed of up to 70km per hour, Evo200 Lite, which targets students, has the maximum speed of 49km per hour.

 

VinFast noted it received 18,000 orders for the new vehicles within just 48 hours after pre-order opening on September 21.

 

Le Hoang Long, Deputy Chief General Manager of E-Scooter Business Operations at VinFast, said the firm is confident that Evo200 will soon become the top choice of consumers during the transition to electric vehicles./.
