AI-Powered Cameras Poised to Replace Police on Streets by Dec. 18

Hanoi: Hundreds of AI-powered cameras with advanced traffic management and enforcement capabilities are being deployed across Hanoi, aiming to replace traffic police on the streets by December 18. Currently, the Hanoi police are operating three command centres managing more than 720 surveillance cameras. Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of the Hanoi Department of Public Security, said at a recent meeting that 261 AI cameras have been installed and put into operation across the city, possessing comprehensive capabilities such as license plate recognition, traffic control through green wave signals, and flow regulation.

According to Vietnam News Agency, these AI cameras are part of a broader initiative to enhance traffic management and reduce the need for human traffic police officers on the streets. The integration of AI technology aims to streamline traffic flow and improve enforcement efficiency, potentially leading to safer and more organized roadways in the city.

The deployment of these AI systems is expected to be completed by December 18, marking a significant shift in how traffic is monitored and managed in Hanoi. With the ability to recognize license plates and regulate traffic signals, these cameras are anticipated to play a crucial role in maintaining order and reducing congestion in the city.
