Hanoi:General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized the importance of enhancing the Communist Party of Vietnam's capacity for self-renewal and self-rectification during his opening remarks at the fourth meeting of the 14th Party Central Committee on October 5. He highlighted four key points, with self-renewal and self-rectification being crucial to preventing situations where identified shortcomings and weaknesses remain unaddressed or where correct procedures do not lead to selecting the right people.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the Party regards regular self-renewal and self-rectification as essential tasks, imperative for the Party's survival and maintaining its leadership in the socialist regime. These efforts are necessary to sustain the Party's influence amidst a socialist-oriented market economy, extensive international integration, and a rapidly changing global landscape. Self-renewal ensures that the Party's leadership, including its economic strategies, working methods, and personnel decisions, adapts to new challenges.
The Party acknowledges that without continuous self-improvement, its officials and members are susceptible to individualism, bureaucracy, corruption, and detachment from their ideals. Self-rectification aims to keep the Party clean, encouraging introspection among its members to prevent 'self-evolution' and 'self-transformation,' thus safeguarding the Party's prestige.
For an organization with millions of members, self-correction is challenging as it involves confronting personal egos and ingrained habits. Changing outdated practices or mindsets requires strict discipline and persistent effort, akin to daily routines like 'brushing one's teeth,' rather than relying solely on willpower.
The Party also seeks to improve through feedback from the public, viewing the people's assessment as a vital measure of its renewal process's effectiveness. The Party's actions and qualities are observed by the public, whose feedback helps identify shortcomings and improve leadership methods. Public trust strengthens when the Party listens to the people and corrects mistakes.
The people play a crucial role in the Party building and rectification process, providing feedback on policies and identifying negative practices. Provincial and municipal Party committees facilitate direct dialogues with the public, handle complaints, and gather assessments for periodic reviews. Community-based groups further involve the public in this work.
The ongoing 15-year process of Party renewal and rectification, from 2012 to 2026, marks significant advances in the Party's thinking and leadership capacity. Across three tenures, the Party has expanded self-renewal and rectification, focusing on building a clean and strong political system. The current review aims to assess improvements in leadership quality, development challenges, and public trust.
General Secretary and President Lam urged the Party Central Committee to confront persistent shortcomings, determine unresolved issues, and address the root causes in new resolutions, emphasizing the need for accountability within the central leadership and advisory bodies.
