Vietnam and Panama Strengthen Bilateral Relations Through Legislative Cooperation

Hanoi:Strengthening ties between Vietnam and Panama's legislatures is a crucial aspect of their bilateral relations, according to National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man. He emphasized the importance of consolidating political trust, promoting high-level agreements, and supporting the bilateral agenda during a meeting with Panama's President José Raúl Mulino Quintero in Hanoi.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the meeting took place on October 7 as part of President Mulino's four-day official visit to Vietnam. NA President Man expressed appreciation for Panama's support during Vietnam's past struggles and current development efforts.

President Mulino thanked NA President Man and highlighted Vietnam's historical support, noting Vietnam as the first country to sign the Protocol to the Treaty Concerning the Permanent Neutrality and Operation of the Panama Canal in 1979. He expressed Panama's desire to deepen bilateral ties and hoped for continued support from the Vietnamese National Assembly.

During discussions, President Mulino briefed NA President Man on his talks with key Vietnamese leaders and the documents signed during his visit. He invited NA President Man to visit Panama to further strengthen the relationship.

NA President Man detailed the Vietnamese legislature's evolving role in enabling sustainable development and highlighted the establishment of the Vietnam-Panama Parliamentary Friendship Group as vital for bilateral cooperation. He assured support for agreements made during President Mulino's visit and emphasized creating a favorable legal framework for cooperation.

President Mulino expressed the importance of political trust through exchanges and cooperation in trade, investment, and other sectors. He supported enhancing legislative exchanges and creating a stable legal framework for bilateral relations.

NA President Man extended an invitation to Panamanian National Assembly President Shirley Castañedas to visit Vietnam, which President Mulino appreciated and promised to convey.
