Cross-Border Tourism and Trade Rebound at Huu Nghi International Border Gate

Lang son: Cross-border tourism and trade through the Huu Nghi International Border Gate in northern Vietnam are showing a significant recovery, with passenger traffic rising by 16% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. Statistics show that over 1.24 million people have completed immigration procedures at the border gate since January, including more than 430,000 with passports (up 5.8%) and over 810,000 with travel permits (up 22.5%). Most travellers are Chinese and Vietnamese citizens crossing for tourism, family visits, or business purposes.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the increase in cross-border movement highlights the growing interest and confidence in regional travel and trade. The Huu Nghi International Border Gate serves as a critical juncture for economic and cultural exchange between Vietnam and China, facilitating the flow of goods and people. This rebound is anticipated to foster stronger bilateral relations and economic growth in the region.

The rise in travel permits indicates a strong preference for short-term visits, suggesting an uptick in business trips and family reunions. Meanwhile, the increase in passport holders reflects a broader trend of international tourism, as the two countries continue to strengthen their tourism sectors post-pandemic.

Local authorities and businesses are optimistic about the continued growth, with infrastructure improvements and streamlined immigration processes likely contributing to the positive trend. Moving forward, the focus will be on maintaining the momentum and ensuring smooth operations at the border to accommodate the increasing traffic.
