Dak Lak Farmers Get Big Boost as CARE Project Wraps Up

Dak lak: CARE International in Vietnam teamed up with the Community Development Centre (CDC) and authorities of Ea Drong commune and Cu Bao ward in Dak Lak province on August 12 to wrap up a sustainable livelihoods development project that has been transforming rural farmers’ livelihoods. Launched in December 2022, the project targeted farming households in former Buon Ho town, now split into Ea Drong commune and Cu Bao ward. Over two and a half years, it delivered 54 training sessions on raising livestock, processing coffee, and crafting handmade goods, directly benefiting 5,260 farmers, 60% of whom were ethnic minority women.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the project aimed to equip farmers with essential skills and knowledge to improve their agricultural practices and increase their income. The training sessions were designed to address the specific needs of the farmers in the region, focusing on sustainable farming techniques and the development of value-added products.

The collaboration between CARE International, CDC, and local authorities was crucial to the project’s success, ensuring that the training was relevant and accessible to the target communities. By involving local stakeholders, the project was able to tailor its approach to better suit the cultural and economic context of the area.

The initiative has had a significant impact on the local economy, with many farmers reporting higher yields and better quality produce. The emphasis on empowering ethnic minority women has also contributed to greater gender equality in the community, as women have been able to take on more active roles in farming and business activities.

As the project concludes, the participating organizations and local authorities are optimistic about the long-term benefits it will bring to the region. They are hopeful that the skills and knowledge imparted through the training sessions will continue to empower farmers and contribute to sustainable development in Dak Lak province.
