NA to End Direct Establishment of Thematic Supervision Missions by People’s Councils: Draft Law

Hanoi: The National Assembly (NA)’s Standing Committee gathered for its 48th session, chaired by Vice NA Chairman Tran Quang Phuong, to deliberate amendments to the Law concerning supervisory activities of the National Assembly and People’s Councils. A significant proposal discussed was the cessation of People’s Councils’ authority to directly establish thematic supervision missions.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the proposed revisions aim to modify and supplement several articles of the existing law. This initiative is part of broader efforts to streamline the supervisory roles of the National Assembly and People’s Councils, ensuring that their functions are more aligned with current legislative priorities and governance frameworks.

The draft law has prompted discussions among lawmakers about the potential impacts of these changes on the effectiveness and autonomy of the People’s Councils. The move is anticipated to enhance coordination and reduce overlaps in supervisory activities, thereby fostering a more cohesive legislative oversight process.
