Deputy PM Calls for Stronger Action Against Intellectual Property Violations

Hanoi: Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung has directed ministries and agencies to conduct a comprehensive review of laws and regulations governing the enforcement of intellectual property (IP) rights, aiming to promptly address legal bottlenecks, improve enforcement effectiveness and help foster a culture of respect for IP rights in Vietnam. The Deputy PM chaired a hybrid conference with localities nationwide on June 2 to review the implementation of the Prime Minister's Official Dispatch No. 38 issued on May 5 on decisively implementing solutions to combat, prevent, and handle acts of infringement of IP rights.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a unified approach in tackling IP violations, stressing the need for a cohesive strategy that involves all relevant sectors and stakeholders. The review of current laws is intended to identify weaknesses and propose necessary amendments to strengthen the legal framework protecting intellectual property.

The conference served as a platform for localities to share their experiences and challenges in enforcing IP rights, with representatives highlighting the need for increased resources and training for enforcement officers to effectively manage IP violations. The Deputy PM also encouraged public awareness campaigns to educate businesses and consumers about the significance of protecting intellectual property.

The initiative underscores the government's commitment to safeguarding IP rights, which are crucial for fostering innovation and economic development in Vietnam. The Deputy PM's call to action is expected to lead to more stringent measures and collaborations between government bodies and the private sector to ensure robust IP protection across the nation.
