EGCO Group showcases investment in the United States while caring for the environment

EGCO Group showcases investment in the United States, along with environmental care and watershed forests, aiming for a low-carbon society at the 'CEO Forum: Climate Action Leading Towards Net Zero' forum. At the 'CEO Forum: Climate Action Leading Towards Net Zero' seminar at the 2024 National Research Expo, Dr. Jiraporn Sirikham, Chief Executive Officer of Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO Group), said that EGCO Group operates electricity and energy production businesses in line with the direction of 'Cleaner, Smarter and Stronger to drive sustainable growth', which emphasizes jointly solving environmental problems and global climate change, which are issues with increasingly severe impacts. It has announced three phases of goals and approaches towards a low-carbon society: short-term, increasing the proportion of electricity generation from renewable energy to 30% and reducing carbon dioxide emissions per unit of electricity produced (Carbon Emissions Intensity) by 10% by 2030; medium-te rm goal, aiming for carbon neutrality by 2040 through continuous investment in green and clean energy, especially hydrogen; as well as expanding the application of CCUS in existing power plants and in the long term, achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 by upgrading the portfolio to 100% clean energy, installing CCUS in all operating power plants and expanding hydrogen-related businesses throughout the value chain. EGCO Group is pushing towards a low-carbon society in a tangible way through two major investments in the United States: the Linden Cogen Power Plant Unit 6, with a capacity of 172 MW, in Linden, New Jersey, in which EGCO Group holds a 28% stake, to support hydrogen-based gas as a fuel mixed with natural gas, which will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of this power plant by approximately 10%; and the investment in a 17.46% stake in Apex Clean Energy Holding LLC (APEX), a large-scale renewable energy project developer with solar, wind, hydrogen, and battery storage systems in the pipeline, totaling over 200 projects with a combined capacity of over 56,000 MW. APEX is another important project that will help EGCO Group increase its renewable energy power generation capacity, which currently accounts for 21% of its portfolio, to 30% by 2030.- Source: Thai News Agency
