Fire at Don Mueang Housing Estate, 21 cats dead

Bangkok, Very sad! Fire at Don Mueang Housing Estate, 4 floors high, Don Mueang area, 21 cats could not escape, died strewn about, 5 injured, sent to hospital. At 10:20 p.m. (last night), Don Mueang Police Station received a report of a fire at a residential building in Soi Chang-Uat Uthit 15, Don Mueang Subdistrict and District, Bangkok. They therefore traveled to investigate. The scene of the incident was a 4-story building in the Don Mueang Housing Authority. Smoke and flames were found at the back of the first floor. Officials rushed to use water to spray for about 10 minutes before the fire was put out. Initial inspection found no trapped or injured people, but 21 cats were found dead at the back of a room on the first floor and there were 5 more cats that were suffocating from the smoke. Officials helped them by giving them oxygen to survive. The room where the incident occurred had only one resident, a 56-year-old woman. During the incident, she was not in the room because she was a traditional mas seuse. She loves cats and dogs very much and has been living in the room for 3-4 years. When she first came, she brought a few cats to raise. Later, when the villagers found out that she loved cats, they brought newborn cats, cats that had been abused, or cats that had been abandoned to raise almost 30 cats. The income from massages, which is only a few hundred baht per day, is used to buy cat food, which is more than 10,000 baht per month, and also covers vaccination expenses. Upon arriving, the female owner of the room was shocked by what had happened. She cried and shouted and rushed to hug the surviving cats. For the remains of the 21 cats, the Ruamkatanyu Foundation has taken them to Wat Bangplee Yai Klang. Currently, the owner of the room in the building is being questioned. The cause of the fire is believed to be an electrical short circuit. After this, the Forensic Science Division (FED) will be contacted to investigate the cause in more detail.
