Can Tho:The first container ship to travel directly from Nanning, China, to Can Tho via the Pinglu Canal has arrived at Can Tho Port, marking the establishment of a new waterway freight route between southwestern China and Vietnam's Mekong Delta.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the vessel's arrival on September 24 was celebrated with a welcome ceremony organized by Can Tho Port JSC, in collaboration with Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) and China's Beibu Gulf Port Group.
The new Nanning-Can Tho service is scheduled to operate twice a month, with each trip taking approximately seven days. The service will employ river-sea container vessels of around 4,900 DWT, capable of handling up to 500 TEUs per trip. It is anticipated that about 25% of the containers will be refrigerated, while the remaining 75% will be dry containers.
