Hanoi: In a move to reduce air pollution and promote green mobility, Hanoi has approved a plan to deploy 5,000 public electric bicycles, alongside restrictions on petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles in the city’s central area.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve air quality and provide sustainable transportation options for residents. The introduction of electric bicycles is expected to complement existing public transport systems and offer an alternative for short-distance travel in the city.
The plan also includes measures to restrict the use of petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles in central areas, aiming to decrease emissions and make the city more environmentally friendly. Hanoi’s authorities are taking steps to ensure the infrastructure is in place for the successful integration of these electric bicycles into the city’s transport network.
The deployment of the bicycles is seen as a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable urban e
nvironment, aligning with global efforts to tackle climate change and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
