Hanoi: As part of the Tourism Promotion Organisation (TPO) for Global Cities’ 12th General Assembly, the 2025 TPO mayors’ meeting took place in Ho Chi Minh City on September 4. Delegates from TPO member cities focused their discussions on five priorities: creating a cross-border cooperation framework for smart tourism, fostering green tourism through international partnerships, advancing digital and green transition strategies, enhancing economic and cultural connectivity via cross-border tourism, and defining the role of mayors in shaping supportive policies for smart and green tourism at the local level, while deepening cross-border collaboration within the TPO network.
According to Vietnam News Agency, these discussions aim to position TPO member cities at the forefront of sustainable tourism development. The emphasis on smart tourism is expected to integrate technology solutions that enhance travel experiences while promoting sustainable practices. The meeting also highlighted the importance of international partnerships in fostering green tourism, which includes reducing carbon footprints and promoting eco-friendly travel options.
Delegates explored the role of digital and green transition strategies in the tourism sector. These strategies are intended to modernize infrastructure and services, making them more resilient and sustainable. The meeting underscored the importance of cultural and economic connectivity through cross-border tourism, which is seen as a vital component in boosting local economies and cultural exchanges.
The assembly also discussed how mayors can shape policies that support smart and green tourism. By creating a framework for collaboration and sharing best practices, mayors are expected to lead initiatives that will benefit both local communities and the broader TPO network. The meeting’s outcomes are anticipated to strengthen the role of TPO member cities in the global tourism landscape.
