Kathmandu: Flash floods and landslides across the Himalayan border region of Nepal and China's autonomous region of Tibet have led to a devastating loss of life and widespread missing persons reports. At least 780 individuals have been confirmed dead, while more than 2,500 people remain unaccounted for, including several hundred tourists. Meanwhile, Chinese officials confirmed that 546 individuals remain missing in Tibet, with 16 fatalities. The tragedy has left a significant number of foreign nationals missing. The Nepal disaster agency reported that among the missing are 598 foreigners, which may include tourists and foreig n workers. Chinese authorities stated that 261 foreigners are unaccounted for in their region. The Nepal Tourism Board noted that 149 Nepali tourists are missing, although the disaster agency lists a slightly lower figure of 127. Several countries have reported missing citizens. In Nepal, nearly 100 Chinese nationals are unaccounted for, while eight Chinese tourists are missing but 16 have been rescued. The United States has 85 citizens missing, with nine confirmed evacuations and no reported fatalities among Americans. Indian nationals also comprise a significant portion of the missing, with 98 reported missing, though 85 have been rescued. The situation has raised concerns about the presence of many Indian pilgrims in Tibet during the disaster. Other countries with missing nationals include Australia, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Latvia, Canada, South Korea, Singapore, Germany, Russia, and numerous others, each with varying numbers of unaccounted individuals.
