Hanoi: Focusing on chip design and talent development, instead of rushing into semiconductor manufacturing, is the best approach for Vietnam to join the global semiconductor supply chain, says Israeli technology expert Mel Shalev. In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency, Shalev, a former senior technology specialist with more than 40 years of experience, including 37 years at IBM, shared Israel's experience in developing its semiconductor industry and discussed prospects for high-tech cooperation between the two countries.

According to Vietnam News Agency, Shalev emphasized the importance of investing in chip design capabilities and nurturing local talent as crucial steps for Vietnam. Drawing from Israel's successful model, he highlighted how a strong focus on research and development, coupled with strategic partnerships, helped Israel establish a competitive edge in the semiconductor market. Shalev believes that Vietnam could replicate this approach to effectively integrate into the global supply chain and enhance its technological capabilities.

Shalev also pointed out the potential benefits of cooperation between Vietnam and Israel, citing both countries' strengths in innovation and technology. He suggested that by leveraging each other's expertise, Vietnam could accelerate its development in the semiconductor sector, which is becoming increasingly vital in the global economy. The Israeli expert's insights come at a critical time as Vietnam seeks to enhance its technological infrastructure and position itself as a key player in the high-tech industry.
