Lam dong: The central province of Lam Dong is accelerating measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, identifying this as a key political task to join Vietnam's efforts to secure the removal of the European Commission's (EC) "yellow card" warning and build a more sustainable fisheries sector. At a meeting of the provincial Steering Committee for Combating IUU Fishing on July 31, Nguyen Van Chien, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment and deputy head of the committee, reviewed progress and set out key measures to address the EC's remaining recommendations by September 30.

According to Vietnam News Agency, the committee emphasized the importance of adhering to international regulations and standards in fisheries management. Nguyen Van Chien outlined a detailed plan that includes enhancing monitoring and surveillance of fishing activities, improving the traceability of seafood products, and raising awareness among local fishermen about the consequences of non-compliance. These steps are crucial for meeting the EC's requirements and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the local fishing industry.

The provincial authorities have also committed to strengthening collaboration with relevant agencies to implement these measures effectively. This includes increasing patrols, utilizing technology for better tracking of fishing vessels, and conducting regular inspections to ensure compliance. The concerted efforts by Lam Dong are part of a broader national strategy to lift the EC's warning and promote responsible fishing practices across Vietnam.
