Lam Dong Launches Peak Crackdown on Illegal Fishing

Hanoi: The central province of Lam Dong has launched a high-intensity campaign against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, with enforcement efforts to continue through mid-September. The campaign, launched on August 20 at La Gi fishing port in Phuoc Hoi ward, brings together the provincial Border Guard Command and relevant agencies to step up inspections, patrols, and law enforcement while addressing shortcomings pointed out by the European Commission (EC).

According to Vietnam News Agency, the campaign aims to address the challenges posed by IUU fishing activities, which have significant environmental and economic impacts. The provincial authorities are coordinating closely with various stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the crackdown measures. By intensifying patrols and inspections, the authorities intend to strengthen law enforcement and ensure compliance with international maritime regulations.

The initiative marks a significant step in Lam Dong's efforts to combat illegal fishing and aligns with broader national policies to promote sustainable fishing practices. The campaign's success is expected to contribute to the province's commitment to preserving marine resources and maintaining the integrity of its fishing industry.
