Lychee Prices Soar as Output Drops by More Than 50%

Bac ninh: While lychee output in the northern province of Bac Ninh is estimated to fall by more than 50% this year due to unfavourable weather during the flowering stage, farmers are still enjoying a successful harvest season as prices stay at record highs. The province is home to more than 29,800ha of 'thieu' lychee orchards, with total output expected to reach around 125,000 tonnes in 2026. As the peak harvest season gets underway, growers are rushing to bring in the crop.

According to Vietnam News Agency, despite the significant drop in lychee production, farmers in Bac Ninh are benefiting from the high market prices. This unexpected financial gain is attributed to the reduced supply, which has driven up demand and subsequently, prices. The lychee farmers are capitalizing on this situation, ensuring that their harvests are completed promptly to maximize profits from the current market conditions.

The impact of weather on the flowering stage was severe, leading to the drastic reduction in output. However, the resilience of the farmers in Bac Ninh has been evident as they adapt to the challenges by adjusting their harvesting strategies. The current circumstances have also prompted discussions among agricultural experts and local authorities on how to better prepare for adverse weather conditions in the future to stabilize lychee production.

This year's scenario has highlighted the importance of strategic planning and market adaptability for farmers. As they navigate the challenges posed by nature, the lychee farmers in Bac Ninh remain optimistic about future harvests, hoping for more favorable weather conditions to increase production and continue benefiting from lucrative market prices.
