MEA Governor joins the panel discussion 'MEA's Sustainable Actions for a Smarter, Sustainable Future' at the international stage Sustainability Expo 2024 Today (3 October 2024), Mr. Vilas Chalaysat, Governor of MEA or the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, joined the panel discussion on ways to create energy sustainability in the capital of the future under the topic 'MEA's Sustainable Actions for a Smarter, Sustainable Future' with Mr. Wansinh Prasertkul, an environmental activist and communicator, joining the panel discussion at the international stage Sustainability Expo 2024. The event also joined the MEA exhibition on the Metropolitan Electricity Authority's Actions for a Sustainable Future at the SX Talk Stage, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. MEA, as a state enterprise that provides electrical system services under the Ministry of Interior in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan, has operated its business with awareness of social and environmental issues in line with the concept of sustain able development, taking into account 3 main factors: environment, society and governance (Environment, Social, Governance: ESG) through various projects such as the MEA GO (Green Organization) project, raising awareness among employees about caring about society and the environment (CSR) through Zero Waste activities, converting waste to energy (Waste to energy), procuring environmentally friendly products and services (Green Procurement), organizing meetings that take into account the efficient use of energy and resources (Green Meeting), and changing energy-saving equipment used in MEA buildings to maximize energy efficiency. In terms of the MEA's power distribution system, the environmental impact from the removal of a large number of deteriorated equipment is also taken into account. MEA has initiated the process of upcycling end-of-life insulators to be used in various forms, such as coarsely grinding them to make anti-skid road ceramic particles. Finely ground insulators can be used to produce high-pe rformance water-absorbing mats, which have been pilot tested within the organization before expanding the application area to other partner networks and communities. The dismantled electric poles from the underground power line project have been planted as coastal erosion protection lines in the area of ??Fort Phra Chulachomklao and the coast of Bang Khun Thian, covering a distance of over 2,500 meters. In addition, the company has continuously supported mangrove planting and maintenance since 2004 until the present, resulting in a mangrove forest area behind the coastal erosion protection line of over 380 rai. For the electric vehicle ecosystem, MEA is the first state enterprise to use electric vehicles (EVs) in its business and has been using EV charging technology in the organization for over 10 years. It has further developed the PLUG ME EV innovation, an electric vehicle charging system suitable for office buildings or condominiums that need to accommodate a large number of EV users, helping to reduce c osts by over 40 percent compared to general AC chargers in the market. It has also created a certification symbol for safe and accurate electric chargers to build confidence in consumers, or Charge Sure by MEA, and implemented projects that support the shift to using more renewable energy. Currently, MEA purchases electricity from 13,735 Very Small Power Producers (VSPPs), totaling over 238 megawatts, and has installed solar cell systems for various agencies totaling over 84 megawatts. All of this helps reduce carbon dioxide by approximately 190,000 tonCo2/year, aiming to use energy with the greatest value. MEA also has projects that focus on creating knowledge for the public. Under the MEA Energy Mind Award project, which has been implemented since 2007, to instill tangible behavioral changes, especially among personnel and youth in various educational institutions, to create a new generation of green-hearted youth (Green Youth) to be delivered to Thai society. For entrepreneurs, the MEA Energy Award projec t is a project that awards buildings in various categories under the concept of 'Efficient energy use and standard air quality'. The project has been in its 7th year and has passed the MEA's energy-saving building standard assessment criteria in total of 313 buildings, resulting in savings of 46.33 million units per year, worth 180.93 million baht per year, and reducing carbon dioxide by 26,589 tonCO2 per year. All of this is just part of the project that MEA has set as a goal for Carbon Neutrality by 2050 and a goal for Net Zero Emission by 2065, driven from within the organization to the outside, and continuing to push for Carbon Neutrality in line with the government's policy in the future.
