Nearly 1,000 Candidates Sit Vietnamese Language Proficiency Test in Japan

Tokyo: The 2026 Vietnamese Language Proficiency Test was held in Tokyo on June 21, attracting 940 contestants, up from 917 in 2025, reflecting growing interest in learning Vietnamese in Japan. The annual test, organised by the Association for the Promotion and Exchange of Southeast Asian Languages in Japan, assesses Vietnamese language skills among learners in Japan. This year's examination covered six levels, from Level 2 to Pre-Level 6, while Level 1, the highest level, was not offered. According to Vietnam News Agency, the increase in participants indicates a rising enthusiasm among Japanese learners to acquire Vietnamese language skills. The test serves as a crucial benchmark for proficiency and is becoming increasingly popular due to the expanding cultural and economic ties between Japan and Vietnam.
